As an art buff, I appreciate most artistic efforts. However, I will forever be obsessed with abstract art in particular. The vibrant colours, outrageous shapes, exaggerated lines, original themes and insane ideas are far more interesting then those of perfectly normal, classic and traditional influences from fine art. Don’t get me wrong; as I said; I appreciate and have been inspired by the classics, but abstract art is definitely more me.

Following the F word you will also know….Continue Reading!

When fashion is inspired by art and art is inspired by fashion; its just one big cycle; and it will continue to go around, then come back round again!

A contributor to the De Stijl art movement, Piet Mondrian was (and still is today), known for his abstract compositions of primary colours (red, blue and yellow) in a black grid of vertical and horizontal lines, against a white background; Mondrian !

His classic compositions were also used as backdrops in the fashion industry, before taking the catwalk in 1965 in the form of an A-line shift dress by Yves Saint Laurent. This iconic “Mondrian dress” was debuted in the Autumn/Winter ’65 season in both a jersey and wool knee length style shift dress.

Since then, similar dresses and other garments alike have been re-inspired and reproduced. Some taking the runway like the infamous YSL piece and others straight to high-street stores or street fashion.

…Last night’s 73rd Golden Globes Awards saw many celebrities take the red carpet in an array of fabulous designers. The females in particular stole the show and looked amazing in their various gowns. It seems white was pretty popular and came in a handful of styles, cuts and and necklines.

Lily James and Saoirse Ronan looked oh so elegant as they glided across the red carpet in their flowy floor length gowns with nipped in high-waists. James wore Marchesa while Ronan wore Yves Saint Laurent. Also in couture Saint Laurent, Jane Fonda looked fabulous in an all white (accessories included) figure hugging long sleeved gown, finished off with some questionable ruffles. Alicia Vikander also flaunted some ruffles;  but in a much smaller degree; as they delicately embellished the neckline of her Louis Vuitton apron gown. Last but not least, and the sexiest of them all; both Eva Longoria and Taraji kept it simple and stylish in sexy-sophisticated, figure hugging floor length gowns. Taraji wore all Stella McCartney (teeny tiny Falabella bag included) with a boob-tube cut and classy cape. Whereas, Longoria wore a Georges Hobeika conservative dress, hand embellished at the hips/ neckline and finished with an elegant front slit.

Capes are certainly in this season and were seen worn by many women last night in colours beyond white. However out of the gorgeous white gowns below, half of them were accompanied by matching capes; completing each look and making the women all the more stunning! #Capes

YSL in film

YSL in film

Hitting the big screen is the long awaited movie that is the life and story of fashion phenomenon; Yves Saint Laurent. Regarded as one of the world’s most eminent luxury designer brands, the French Fashion house was founded in 1961 by YSL and partner Pierre Bergé.

The movie that was released today (in the UK) will show the fascinating journey of the 21 year old fashion enthusiast who quickly became a prodigy and extraordinary figure in the fashion world. I hear original Saint Laurent designs are featured in the movie and secrets of the couple’s personal life are explored, so get your tickets, get in line and take a seat. I can’t say anymore because I haven’t seen the movie myself yet, nevertheless I can not wait.

Love it

Pic of the day!

Yes. Thats right, its a few of our favourite Disney princesses in high fashion. Fresh off the runway and looking absolutely fabulous.

From left to right we have; Jasmine in SS14 Alexander Wang, followed by Mulan in the creme de la creme, that is Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, next is Pocahontas in a saucy number by Givenchy and last but not least, is Ariel going for the classic look, in Saint Laurent.

Personally, I think this sketch is amazing. I love it. Who would have thought characters from our childhood could be fashion icons today. Forget Carrie Bradshaw, its about to get Sex and the City, fairytale style!
